Nyakach Girls High School grounds on Saturday, 2nd March 2024 played host to a series of entertaining build-up matches that attracted football fans across board.

In the opening match, Gideons Starlets FC won 4-2 against fellow ‘visitors’ Vihiga Queens Football Club (VQFC) where VQFC’s goals were scored by on-form striker Tumaini Waliaula and midfield maestro Martha Amonyolete.

VQFC came back for the second match reinvigorated and redeemed themselves against hosts Nyakach Girls High School by scoring one goal to nil.

Nyakach’s efforts to pull back Sheila Juma’s goal proved futile thus enabling Queens to go back home heads high.

According to Vihiga Queens Head Coach Boniface Nyamunyamuh, such build-up matches play a big part in challenging the players on match fitness and at the same time helps in maintaining the team’s momentum and rhythm, especially on weekends when VQFC have no league fixtures.

“We’ve had a long break out of competitive play. We’ve been out of action for 3 weeks to be specific. Until our next KWPL match schedule and for consistency, we look at how to break the monotonous routine training. We shall carefully include a range of build-up matches for the team’s conditioning.” said Nyamunyamu.
