The Vihiga Queens FC team yesterday evening held it’s first training session in Cairo, Egypt ahead of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2021.

After jetting in to Cairo on the same day, the team rested for a few hours before holding the first session at the 30th June Stadium.

Team captain Enez Mango said the players are in very high spirits and looking forward to the tournament. “We are determined to work hard and pick good results with our first target being making it to the semi final stage,” added Mango.

Eight teams will battle in the inaugural tournament slated for November 5-19th in Cairo.

The CECAFA winners of the zonal qualifiers of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Vihiga Queens will face Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) on November 6th in their opening match. The other teams in the same group Morocco’s Asfar Club Rivers Angels (Nigeria).

To win the Zonal qualifiers of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Vihiga Queens lost 4-2 to CBE of Ethiopia, before stopping Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan) 11-0 in the second game. They went ahead to defeat New Generations FC (Zanzibar) 8-0 in the last group match.

In the semi final they stopped Simba Queens FC (Tanzania) 2-1, and revenged against CBE whom they defeated 2-1 in the final.
