The Vihiga County Governor Hon. Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo has praised Vihiga Queens for carrying the national flag high during the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

Dr. Ottichilo said although Vihiga Queens did not reach the knock out stage of the inaugural competition in Egypt, they had showed dedication which also gave Vihiga County mileage around the world.

The Vihiga Governor said this on Wednesday when he hosted the Vihiga Queens team to a a luncheon at Sossa Cottages in Vihiga County.

He made it clear that budget allocations to the team will be increased so that more talent can be nurtured. The team also appreciated the support from the County.

The CECAFA giants lost two games and won one in Group B of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League. They kick started the campaign with a 1-0 loss to Sundowns Mamelodi Ladies (South Africa) before recovering to stop ASFAR FC (Morocco) 2-0. The Vihiga Queens lost the last Group match 4-0 to Nigeria’s Rivers Angels FC.
