CECAFA regional giants Vihiga Queens FC have picked their first win in the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2021 in Cairo, Egypt.

The Queens humbled Morocco’s ASFAR FC 2-0 in their second Group B match played at the Al Salaam Stadium this afternoon.

It was a sweet win for the Kenyan side after head coach Charles Okere had promised on Monday that this was a must win for them after they corrected the mistakes that saw them fall 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in the first match.

The hungry Vihiga Queens scored through Violet Wanyonyi and star striker Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu.

It was Wanyonyi who netted the opening goal after 8 minutes. The Moroccan side tried to press to find an equalizer, but failed to beat the water tight Vihiga Queens defending line.

In the second half Wanyonyi turned provider with a good cross that Shikangwa deflected past the ASFAR goalkeeper after 51 minutes.

ASFAR striker Sanaa Masoudy, who scored the hat-trick in the win against Nigeria’s Rivers Angels in their 3-0 win was kept at bay.

“The team has worked hard and I am happy we got the win. We now have to work hard ahead of the last Group game against Rivers Angels on Friday,” said Queens coach Okere.

Later today Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies will face Rivers Angels in the third Group B match.
