It is match day again as Vihiga Queens FC will face Nigeria’s Rivers Angels this afternoon in a Group B match that will decide if they make it to the knock-out stage of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League.

The CECAFA giants are currently second in the group behind Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, the only team to secure all the six points after two matches in the competition.

Charles Okere, the Vihiga Queens head coach has made it clear that although Rivers Angels are a strong team, his team must approach the match like a final. “We need to score as many goals as possible to be able to get to the semi-final stage,” said Okere.

Team captain Enez Mango made it clear that the match against Rivers Angels is a very important match to be played at the 30 June Stadium. “We need to give our best and fight till the end,” added Mango.

The Rivers Angels coach Edwin Okon however made it clear that anything is possible in football and they can still make it to the semi final. “We lost the first two matches, but everything is possible in football. We can win and with a big goal difference, we just need the match to go as we plan,” he added.

Deborah Abiodun Ajibola, the midfielder for the Nigerian side said they are still hopeful of getting a good result. “We still have hope to win this and fight over the semifinal qualification,” added Ajibola.

After losing 1-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), Vihiga Queens revived their hopes with a 2-0 win against ASFAR FC (Morocco).

Already Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies FC and Malabo Kings (Equatorial Guinea) have qualified from Group A for the semi-finals. The semi final matches will be played on November 15th.
