Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC will take to the field this afternoon against Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies in their opening Group B match at the on-going TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2021.

The inaugural tournament kick-off on Friday with Wadi Degla (Egypt) stopping AS Mande (Mali) 3-1, while Ghana’s Hasaacas Ladies FC also picked a 3-1 victory against Malabo Kings (Equatorial Guinea).

Charles Okere, Vihiga Queens coach said yesterday during a press conference that his team has prepared well for the tournament. “Owing to the preparations and practice that we’ve done, we do believe that this is our trophy to take home,” said a confident Okere.

The coach urged fans to support and embrace optimism with the team as one way of motivating them towards better performance in the highly competitive tournament.

Team captain Enez Mango also made it clear that the team is ready and motivated for their opening match. Jentrix Shikangwa Milimu will be the key player to watch to get the goals for Vihiga Queens FC against the South African side.

Vihiga Queens will also have to keep close watch of Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies’ Nonhlanhla Mthandi and the golden boot winner at the Zonal qualifier with five goals Melinda Kgadiete.

Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala said that they will be all out to try and get a positive result in the first match. I’ve managed to see some of the games of Vihiga Queens that they’ve played during their qualifiers,” added the coach.

Group B: Vihiga Queens FC (Kenya), Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa), Asfar Club (Morocco), Rivers United (Nigeria)
